Habitat News

Habitat has selected two new families for the next two Habitat homes. This is the first time that LCV habitat have selected two families at once. The Erasmo De Jesus family will get the first house. They actually own their own property in Manson, and we will be building there. Erasmo's wife is named Honorina, and they have two children, Ivan, who was nine years old mid-summer when the applications were completed, and Evelyn, who was four years old then. Hector Avila Ceja and his wife Maria A. Hernandez de Avila will get the second house. It will be build after we complete the De Jesus home, and it will be located in Chelan Falls on property that habitat had previously purchased. They have three children. Manuel was eleven when we started the process, Alejandro was eight, and Deisy was three.

Family Selection
The three criteria used by Habitat for Humanity to select families are:
Need
Health & Safety: Your present housing in Lake Chelan Valley is not adequate, and you are unable to obtain adequate housing through conventional means. Lack of adequate housing may include problems with the present structure: water, electrical or sewage service systems: heating systems; or failure to meet city property maintenance standards.
The number, ages, and gender of children compared to the number of bedrooms in your home is disproportionate as defined by Habitat for Humanity.
Ability to Pay
You spend more than 30% of your monthly income on housing and your total income is less than 60% of the county's median family income using current year figures.
Since you will actually be buying your home from Habitat, you must demonstrate your ability to pay the monthly mortgage payment and that you have paid your bills in the past. We will help you determine if this payment will jeopardize your ability to meet all other family financial obligations and expenses.
Willingness to Partner
You and your family must complete 500 hours of volunteer work with Habitat, otherwise referred to as “sweat equity,” before becoming a homeowner. These hours are earned, primarily, by assisting in the construction of your home or other Habitat homes. Other opportunities for earning sweat equity hours include, providing food for volunteers and volunteering in the Habitat store.
Equal Housing Opportunity Lender
The selection of families who will purchase homes from Lake Chelan Valley HFH will be done by the Family Selection Committee using these criteria in a way that does not discriminate on the basis of race, sex, color, age, handicap, religion, marital status, or because all or part of the applicant’s income is derived from public assistance programs.
